Protests in the south of the country have generated more than 58,000 affected air passengers

Since the protests began in the country, the airports of Cusco and Ayacucho have been affected and temporarily closed. This has generated that so far this year there have been 525 canceled flights and more than 58,000 affected passengers.

This was reported by the Association of International Air Transport Companies in Peru (Aetai) and the Peruvian Association of Air Companies (Apea), which regretted that, until now, the Arequipa and Juliaca airports remain closed.

In this context, they regretted the blockades of multiple land routes, as well as extensive damage to airport facilities, affecting air operations.

“This endangers not only the connectivity of the Puno and Arequipa regions, but also thousands of people who need to travel to other cities, including those who need to travel for health reasons, as we have already seen on different platforms,” they noted. .

In this sense, they invoked the unity of the citizens and the search for peace and respect for the rights that the country needs at this time.

“We strongly and urgently ask the authorities to find the means to put an end to this climate of excessive violence that we are experiencing. Peru needs everyone at this time to build and fly towards a better tomorrow”, they expressed.

Next, they expressed their regret for the deadly balance that the protests have been leaving to date.

“We want to express our deepest sorrow for the death of the more than 50 people who have been victims of the climate of violence in force today in our country,” they said.

The unions of air operators believe in the peaceful social demonstration as a valid and understandable protest measure for citizens to seek to be heard.

“However, the presence of acts of vandalism in various regions of the country has led us to a climate of uncertainty and citizen insecurity that unfortunately has affected the integrity and lives of people, as well as the operation of various industries that contribute to the development of the Peru,” they stressed.
