This Wednesday, January 18, 2023, Petroperú received the alert of a new cut in the Norperuano Pipeline (ONP) in the Amazonas region. According to the first reports, the event would have occurred at kilometer 390 of Section II, in the Condorcanqui province, in the aforementioned department.
Petroperú has activated its Contingency Plan, but the protesters have not allowed the entry of operating personnel to carry out the repair and containment work, as reported by the company itself.
According to the state company, since January 14, vandalism has been recorded in that area, which Petroperú has reported to public opinion and to local, regional and national authorities, communicating the danger to life and the environment. As recalled, on January 16, a group of protesters set fire to the ONP pipeline in that same sector, at kilometer 389 of Section II.
The event has been reported to supervisory entities such as the Agency for Environmental Assessment and Enforcement (OEFA) and Supervisory Agency for Investment in Energy and Mining (Osinergmin), as well as the National Police of Peru and the Crime Prevention Prosecutor’s Office, to which the respective supervision in the place has been requested to verify the impediment that is registered to attend the contingency.

“Petroperú denounces these serious events that endanger the lives of the nearby population and that could generate a large-scale environmental catastrophe. Likewise, it requests the forces of order to take the corresponding actions to protect the ONP and identify those responsible. In the same way, it urges the protesters to withdraw from the industrial zone to safeguard their own lives and those of the nearby communities,” the company concluded.
