Getariako Txakolina increases production by 20% and sales by 13%

2022 has been quite an adventure and a great challenge for the winemakers of the Txakoli de Getaria Designation of Origin. The drought, heat and abundant sunny days, an unusual situation in Gipuzkoa, have kept the winegrowers of this Denomination of Origin in suspense until the very day of the harvest. However, the weather anomaly has borne fruit and has allowed us to obtain one of the best harvests with higher kilogram yield per hectare and of higher quality.

In data, the year translates into a 20% production increase compared to 2021. Thus, the Denomination of Origin has harvested 4.8 million kilos of grapes and will put 4.3 million bottles of txakoli on the market.

Production continues to be mostly white, although the production of rosé is increasing mainly for the export market, the latter accounting for 10% of production.

As for sales, once the uncertainty at the beginning of the year due to the pandemic had been overcome, it has also been a good year for Getariako Txakolina. The Denomination of Origin has achieved an increase in sales of 13% compared to 2021 and 4 million seals have been delivered.

In addition, Getaria txakoli continues to gain international recognition with an approximate increase in exports of 30%.

This new vintage has a slightly higher degree than those of the 2021 vintage, greater body and balanced acidity, they explain from the Denomination, which brings together 35 wineries in the territory.

As is tradition, this Tuesday, San Antón Day, the Getariako Txakolina Designation of Origin will celebrate its Txakolin Eguna.
