More than 2 million people from Lima subsist thanks to precarious employment

During the last quarter of 2022, the employed population in Metropolitan Lima totaled 5 million 84,600 people, a figure that implies an increase of 1.4% compared to the same period in 2019.

However, there is a setback in the adequate employment indicators, since there are only 2,999,400 citizens in this sector, 9.4% less than in the year prior to the pandemic (3,310,000).

Likewise, there are 2 million 85,200 who are dedicated to underemployment —that is, less paid or with few hours compared to the general average in the week.

In the universe of underemployed, there is a rebound of 380,400 people compared to the period October, November and December 2019 (22.3%), being even the most pronounced increase in underemployment by income (531,000 people than the year before the coronavirus). .

Finally, the INEI details that there are 389,300 unemployed citizens (63.4% more than in 2019).
