Sedapal doubled, for the first time, its investments in drinking water and sewerage projects

The Drinking Water and Sewerage Service of Lima (Sedapal) announced that in 2022 it achieved a record number of investments in drinking water and sewerage projects, doubling for the first time the number reached in the historical average, which will contribute to closing the gaps by 2030, the year in which the company expects to provide the service to 98% of the user population.

According to information provided by the company, the institutional budget for the opening of investments for the 2022 management amounted to S/1 million 30,300; however, Sedapal ended the year with an accumulated execution of S/1 million 278,000, which represents 124% of what was programmed.

Likewise, the entity, which is under the administration of Augusto Eguiguren, announced that it has 14 works in progress in different parts of the capital, which will benefit more than 1.3 million residents of Lima and Callao.

On the other hand, after five years, Sedapal achieved an important milestone by reaching an agreement with the peasant community of Carhuacayán to resume operations of the Huascacocha dam, one of the most important water reserves in the country.

The resumption of work on the dam, located at 4,800 m above sea level, in the province of Yauli, Junín region, will allow the storage and transfer of water resources to the Rímac river basin with a flow of 2.6 cubic meters per second ( m3/s) and a volume of 48.6 million cubic meters per year (around 48 trillion 600,000 million liters).

Measures against water shortages

Among the announcements made by the company, the execution of 39 investment projects called “Vital and urgent for the sustainability of services” also stands out. that will guarantee the drinking water service in Lima and Callaoin the face of a possible shortage due to the lack of rain in the central highlands.

In this regard, Eguiguren pointed out that the total budget of this investment portfolio amounts to S/10 trillion 702,000, and includes 3 projects that are already underway, 16 projects that have a technical file, 15 in the formulation of the profile study, three that will be executed through public and private alliances, and two in expression of relevance and idea.

In this way, Sedapal reaffirms its commitment to work to contribute to closing gaps, access to drinking water and sewerage for the benefit of the residents of Lima and Callao.
