In these first days of 2023, Petroecuador reports increased production in the blocks it now manages after ending the contract with the private company that operated them. They are blocks 16 and 67, located in the province of Orellana, which produce 14,534 barrels of oil equivalent, corresponding to 14,014.57 barrels of oil and 519 barrels of oil equivalent.

“This implies an increase of 1,001.57 barrels per day, in relation to the 13,533 barrels registered at 00:00 on January 1, 2023, at the time of its reversion to the State due to the end of the contractual term,” reported Petroecuador.

This public company recalled that its commitment and challenge is to maintain and increase the production of these blocks, and that this is being fulfilled with direct benefit for the State. The income from the oil that is extracted in this area will feed the general budget of the State during the operation carried out by the company. December 31, 2022 was the term of validity of the contract for the provision of services for the exploration and exploitation of blocks 16 and 67, which were in the hands of Repsol and which were later transferred, through a sale of shares abroad. , to New Stratus Energy (NSE); in turn, the latter was later renamed Petrolia and, a few days after the contract expired, threatened to initiate an arbitration claim against Ecuador, because according to their position their rights to request an extension of the contract have not been respected. agreement.
