The Superior Court of Justice of the Basque Country has provisionally suspended the abolition of early voluntary retirement premiums for 34 civil servants of the Gipuzkoa Provincial Council.
The foral institution has informed this Wednesday in a statement of this judicial resolution that, according to what it specifies, “does not go into the substance of the matter” and affects “only and exclusively these 34 people.”
This group of officials from the Gipuzkoa Provincial Council filed an appeal in court and requested precautionary measures after the decision to annul the aforementioned bonuses.
The Gipuzkoa Provincial Council announced last month July the elimination of these payments in application of several sentences of the Supreme Court.
The Provincial Council, which followed in the footsteps of other institutions such as the Bilbao City Hall who acted in the same way, today she was “very surprised by the decision of the High Court of Justice of the Basque Country, which she “respects and abides by”.
Regarding the premium in question, the Provincial Council recalled that “Provincial Council staff who met the requirements established in the social security system to access voluntary early retirement were entitled to a premium.”
This was equivalent to a number of monthly payments determined based on the number of quarters remaining until reaching the legal retirement age, with a maximum of 40,000 euros.
