SBS alerts users about the use of 20 informal applications for money loans

The Superintendency of Banking, Insurance and Private Pension Fund Administrators (SBS) warned citizens about money lending applications (apps) that are operating in the country and that are not registered in the Registry of Companies and Persons that carry out Financial or Currency Exchange Operations, in charge of it .

The entity indicated that 20 applications and/or virtual platforms have been detected through which money loans are offered and disbursed at the user’s request and, even, without the person having made any request.

In this line, when the citizen downloads these applications on his cell phone, he is required to provide personal information and access to the directory of his contacts, as well as collect and monitor mobile information. This would violate the security and privacy of customers.

In addition, when requiring the user to pay the loans, high charges and interest are included. Threats to clients have also been reported to inform all of their contacts about their supposed debtor status or to disseminate aggravating facts or situations that violate their honor and instill fear in them. Therefore, the SBS recommends not consulting or downloading these applications (apps) or similar ones.
