On Sunday, December 25, the majority of Ecuadorians celebrate the Christmasalthough according to the Holidays Law, the mandatory rest day is moved to Monday, December 26, forming three days of vacation.
The Holidays Law indicates that if a holiday falls on Saturday it will be transferred to Friday and if it falls on Sunday it will be transferred to Monday.

However, the nature of some jobs does not allow companies to have all their employees. Therefore, if you work the Christmas holiday, you must receive another day off to make up the mandatory rest day.
Another option is to get paid 100% surcharge for overtime hours worked, as stipulated in article 55, numeral 4 of the Labor Code. That means double what is normally received per hour.

How to Calculate Value Per Hour
To find out how much your employer pays you for each hour worked, divide your monthly salary by 30, the number of days in the month. The result is the value you get for each working day, so you have to divide it once more by the number of hours you work per day. The final value is what they pay you per hour.
If you work on the Christmas holiday, you must multiply that value by two and thus you obtain the amount that you must be paid for overtime.
Taking into account a basic salary (USD 425.00) this is how the operation is carried out:
- 425/30 = 14.16 (daily payment)
- 14,16/8 = 1.77 (paid per hour)
- 1.77 x 2 = 3.54 (overtime pay)
USD 3.54 is the value of each overtime hour you work. If you work 8 overtime hours on a holiday, the value that you should be paid is $28.33 (YO)
