The mayors of Irun (Gipuzkoa), Jose Antonio Santanofrom Baiona (Lapurdi), Jean-René Etchegarayand from Bordeaux (France), Pierre Hurmic, have signed a manifesto in which they urge the “modernization” of the existing railway line between these municipalities. The three mayors have expressed their “concern” in this regard.

As they have recalled, in Irun “the new Adif international station has already been launched within the urban transformation of the Vía Irun project” and “the connection with the border is not foreseen in the short term, nor in a financial way”.

In the opinion of the three councilors “it is necessary that, as soon as possible, and in order to be able to confirm this alternative, a complementary study is carried out by an independent company that analyzes the calendars, the possibilities of intermodal transport, the technical feasibility, the anticipated travel times, costs and environmental impacts, of that alternative”.

In addition, they have called on all political, economic, social and citizen forces to “support this alternative, a symbol of efficient and sustainable mobility”.
