Unrestricted respect for institutions is essential to build a truly democratic society. Respecting the institutions implies safeguarding democratic forms, the current legal framework, the Constitution and, above all, appealing to dialogue between the authorities and society for the construction of the Peru we want, inclusive, competitive and prosperous.
To find the best way to strengthen Peruvian democracy and its institutional framework, the Bicentennial edition of CADE Executives, a forum organized by IPAE Business Association between November 16 and 18, will include a series of sessions that seek to collect international experiences and understand better the work of our institutions. Under the slogan “Diverse voices, one Peru”, this edition of the event seeks to generate dialogue and reach consensus to strengthen our democracy.
One of these sessions is “Institutionalism in the bicentennial of Peru”, by Anne Applebaum (United States), historian, journalist and geopolitical commentator winner of the Pulitzer Prize. The expert will reflect on the threats to institutionality and democracy: authoritarianism, nationalism and polarization.
It will also examine the challenges and opportunities of global political and economic change through the lenses of world history and the contemporary political landscape. Thanks to his experience in Europe and his years of international reporting, Applebaum will share the far-reaching implications of today’s volatile world events.
For his part, Claudio Orrego (Chile), Governor of the Santiago Metropolitan Region; and Mae Montaño (Ecuador), political and social activist and former National Assemblyman, will participate in the session “Facing the challenges of the country in democracy”. In it, the challenges of facing the challenges of development in democracy will be shared with the audience.
Finally, to learn more about the importance of our democratic institutions, the balance of powers and the governance of the country, the president of the Congress of the Republic, María del Carmen Alva, will lead the session “Democratic institutions, indispensable foundation for development.” In it, he will not only talk about the legislative work of Parliament, but also about its role in the economic, political and social development of Peru.
