The manager of the Bizkaia Hotel and Catering Association, Héctor Sánchez, has affirmed that the decision of the Supreme Court that agrees with the hotel associations in their dispute with the Basque Government over the pandemic closure has put “things in their place “and he recalled that they will now be able to claim compensation regardless of the aid already received.

In an interview on Radio Euskadi, Sánchez recalled the latest decision of the Supreme Court that ratifies the illegality of some measures adopted by the Basque Government to deal with COVID19, which agrees with the hotel associations, and that it is about the fifth resolution in favor of the theses they have defended.

“We defended at the time that the decisions that were adopted lacked foundation and logical argument, and ultimately the courts have agreed with us,” he assessed, adding that this opens the way to possible claims against the public administration for the “illegal” shutdown.

On the other hand, he has assured that the aid that has been articulated has been paid but it was two years of pandemic and “what was articulated in no case compensated for the damage caused.” “The aid was appreciated but it was far from the damage suffered. This sentence is final and allows the locals, regardless of the aid, claim damages“, has added.
