Most banking services are not adapted to people with disabilities, even at this time. 90% of people with vision problems have faced fraud at some time in their lives or have encountered an error at a point of sale. Using this data, Thales, a high-tech company that invests in digital and “deep-tech” innovations, has developed a solution that gives vision-impaired people confidence and autonomy in their daily payment experience. This innovation, which vocalizes each step of a transaction, is already certified by Visa and Mastercard, the main credit cards. at the world level.
In collaboration with its partner Handsome (a French financial technology company specializing in inclusive solutions), Thales decided to use its innovation to offer inclusive solutions in the field of payments. To be able to use it, all users of this voice payment card have to do is install an application on their mobile phone, which is exclusively associated with their card. Once installed, each time they make a payment, the application vocalizes the amount of the transaction before the user validates it with their secret code.
Thales voice payment card works as a connected device that retrieves the amount from the POS terminal and communicates it to the mobile application via Bluetooth. The customer can then listen to the information through the phone’s speaker or headset. This singular solution will soon be commercialized in several banks, which are convinced of its usefulness.
“At Thales we know that innovation has the capacity to solve many problems. So, with the support of Handsome and drawing on Thales’ key experience in developing secure and convenient payment solutions, we decided to address the issues faced by blind and partially sighted people. Since then, the solution has been found to be useful for other disabilities. All in all, we are delighted that our developments contribute to creating more sustainable and responsible payment solutions,” said Bertrand Knopf, Vice President of Banking and Payment Services at Thales.
