The objective of the measure, which is negotiated, along with others, by the two parties of the Executive and which, according to Pablo Iglesias on Radio Euskadi, has been proposed by United We Can, is to deal with the increase in inflation in the shopping basket.

The two parties that make up the Government of Spain, the PSOE and United We Can, they negotiate a series of economic measures to face the rise in prices; in this context, United We Can has proposed direct help from a check of between 200 and 300 euros so that around seven or eight million families of the Spanish State can alleviate the impact of inflation on the shopping cart. This was announced this Thursday, on ‘Boulevard’, on Radio Euskadi, by the former leader of United We Can Pablo Iglesias.
“A check of between 200 and 300 euros is proposed for seven or eight million families,” specified Iglesias, who, regarding the package of measures negotiated by PSOE and Unidas Podemos and which is expected to be ready by the end of the year, He has pointed out that, “in this case, in a coalition government, there will be some who will pull more to the left, and others, more to the right”.
Díaz refers to the large distributors
In this line, Yolanda Díaz, Second Vice President of the Government of Spain and also a member of Unidas Podemos, has considered “more than questionable” that the large distributors do not take measures to lower the price of the shopping basket, and has also ensured that, when the Spanish Executive takes measures, as it has done in the case of energy, “prices drop.”
In Díaz’s opinion, “the main problem” in Spain, “along with rents and mortgages, is that Spanish families simply cannot guarantee quality and healthy food, simply because the purchase price is impossible.” As he recalled, he has been urging measures to lower the price of the shopping cart since September, with measures that can be “from agreements with large distributors, to many other issues.”
“VAT has nothing to do with the proposals that have to do, precisely, with people’s lives,” he stressed, before stressing that this crisis “has to be paid for with the contribution of those who have the most. In this case, are the large distributors, who concentrate power in very few hands”, he indicated.
For Díaz, “it does not make sense” what “the economic right and the PP always propose, which is to lower taxes; it would not fix the problem we have with the shopping basket, and what we have to guarantee, with different measures, are shopping baskets with a variety of quality products”, he said.
