New air route will link Ayacucho and Cusco from November 4

From November 4, the Cusco-Ayacucho-Cusco air route will be opened, in which it is expected to transport 30,000 passengers in the first year, according to projections provided by LATAM Airlines Peru during the official launch. The objective is to contribute to the commercial and productive growth of both regions.

Tickets are now on sale until Sunday, September 25, at US$20 per section, after which their regular price will be US$35. This route could have become a reality as a result of coordinated work between the public and private sectors.

“This opening is of vital importance because it will frame the signal of organized development in our region regarding the economy. This will generate tourism development in all types of businesses (…) and will strengthen job creation, as well as make up for time lost due to the pandemic,” said Paul Soto, president of the Ayacucho Chamber of Commerce.

The CEO of LATAM Airlines, Manuel van Oordt, recalled that the Lima-Ayacucho route began in 2014, which was a great bet because there was little air connectivity between the two cities in those years, despite the proximity they had. Today that route operates three times a day, so they hope that this new connection can match or exceed these results.

“We saw that it was convenient to promote this new route, to connect Ayacucho with the main tourist attraction in Peru and probably in the region, which is Machupicchu. On the other hand, I have no doubt that we can attract more people from Lima and Cusco to Ayacucho, which will produce a great pole of development,” van Oordt specified.

For his part, the president of CONFIEP, Oscar Caipo, said that the Ayacucho-Cusco interregional route reflects the commitment of the private sector to the development and well-being of the country, within the framework of the approach to the regions that CONFIEP promotes to get involved more in the solution of the problems that affect the population.

“Connectivity is essential to transform the lives of peoples and in the case of this route, it will favor tourism, commercial activity and cultural exchange in both regions. We ratify our commitment to continue activating public-private coordination to promote the development of the country”, added Oscar Caipo.

Finally, Paul Soto commented that “this new route, which will link Ayacucho and Cusco, will benefit the economic reactivation and will open the doors to national and foreign tourism. Likewise, it will promote the commercial and business sector through foreign trade.”
