The country has more than 2,000 drones in service in the Armed Forces.
Russian President Vladimir Putin today called on the Defense Ministry and the Russian defense industry to apply artificial intelligence to drones, of which the country has more than 2,000 in service in the Armed Forces.
“We now have more than 2,000 UAVs in service,” Putin said at the beginning of a telematic meeting with the leadership of the Defense Ministry and defense industry companies.
“We have to continue working on them (…) taking into account, among other things, the use of artificial intelligence, the most modern advances in technology, science and, of course, our experience in their use and analysis of what happens around us, “he stressed.
Putin stressed that Russia “has learned to repel attacks” with drones and does so “quite effectively.”
“We know very well how they have been used in armed conflicts in recent years, how effective and dangerous they can be for us if we remember what we saw in Syria: terrorist attacks with unmanned aerial vehicles,” he said.
In one of the most recent conflicts in the post-Soviet region, the one between Azerbaijan and Armenia in 2020 for control of Nagorno Karabakh, Baku used Israeli and Turkish drones, which not only changed tactics on the battlefield, but also gave a decisive advantage to the country led by Ilham Aliev, which won the war in 44 days.
Armenia hardly has this type of device, although it has developed its own drone, the Krunk (Swan). (I)
