‘I am leaving with my head held high’, says Boris Johnson in Parliament

British Prime Minister, Boris Johnson said Wednesday that he is leaving with “head held high”but he acknowledged before the deputies that his departure, caused by an accumulation of scandals, occurs earlier than he would have liked.

In a discussion with Labor opposition leader Keir Starmerwho considered Johnson lost in his illusions “until the end”, the conservative leader told his adversary that he never “came up with an idea or project for the country”.

Mentioning Brexit, the vaccination campaign against covid-19, or the “decisive role” of the United Kingdom in Ukraine against “the brutal Russian invasion”, Johnson declared “proud of the formidable teamwork” made under his direction.

“It is absolutely true that I am leaving at a time that I did not choose,” Johnson added, about a week after the announcement of his resignation, triggered by the mass exodus of members of his government after successive scandals.

I leave with my head held high” he said during the question session in Parliament.

Following the announcement of Boris Johnson’s resignation last Thursday, eight candidates are on the list to succeed him at the Conservative Party headquarters and in Downing Street.

A first round of voting for Conservative MPs will take place on Wednesday. At least one candidate will be eliminated, the one with the fewest votes, or even more if they do not get 30 votes.

Other laps will be organized until two finalists are chosen.

A vote by mail will then be organized, reserved only for members of the party. The result is expected on September 5. (YO)
