EHIC. How to apply for an EHIC?

Everyone who is insured or is entitled to treatment on the basis of special rights is entitled to the EHIC. The insurance is valid in all countries, overseas territories, France or Portugal and in Northern Ireland.

You can apply for an EHIC in five ways:

  • Via the ePUAP electronic inbox. In this case, the application is considered within 5 working days, and from June to September – within 10 working days.
  • Via the Internet (IKP). You have to go to the website, find the “My Account” tab and information about health insurance and the EHIC card. The waiting time is the same as when applying through ePUAP.
  • By traditional mail, to the address of any branch or branch of the National Health Fund. The application template is available at www.nfz.gov.pl. The waiting time is the same as for.
  • By e-mail (only for employee applications for EHIC). The application template is available on the website. The completed document should be sent to the address ekuz.praca@nfz.gov.pl. The waiting time is the same as for ePUAP.
  • In person at any branch or delegation. The application is available on the spot and on the website www.nfz.gov.pl. Both the EHIC and the sticker with the text in Braille are available immediately.

In order to receive an EHIC, you must show a document confirming health insurance (if the system does not show it), and when you are a student – an ID confirming continuation of education. Moreover: A1 document – issued by or when you leave for work; U2 document – issued by the employment office, when you go to look for a job, and authorization, if the application is submitted on behalf of someone else.

The EHIC is generally valid for 3 years for people employed, running a business or receiving pre-retirement benefits or benefits. they get a card valid for 20 years, and minors up to 18 years of age. Adults who continue their education receive a card valid for 18 months.
