The Prado Museum was closed for one night to open up to NATO leaders. Those attending the summit that takes place in Madrid starred a gala dinner at the museum most important in our country in which, in addition, numerous cultural events were held.
Despite the delay of some delegations due to the meetings they had throughout the day, some leaders took advantage of the time admiring works of art. That was precisely what Emmanuel Macron and Boris Johnson himself did.
The British Prime Minister, who has a degree in Classics from Oxford University, he got down from the rest of the leaders to admire the works of art alone from the center gallery.
Another of the protagonists was the Italian Prime Minister, Mario Draghi, who had to leave the NATO summit to return to Rome due to tensions in his coalition. The image of the president sitting on one of the museum’s benches answering the call that made him leave Spain is another anecdote from the first day of the summit.
Almost an hour late Joe Biden arrived with his granddaughters but with the absence of his wife, Jill Biden, who had already left for the United States. As soon as he entered the Museum, the US president melted into a hug with chef José Andrés, who was in charge of making the menu, with ‘Ukrainian’ overtones.
Those who also had to wait were the members of the kyiv Orchestra, whom President Pedro Sánchez approached to apologize for the wait. All the leaders enjoyed the concertwhich sent a message of NATO support to Ukraine for Russia’s invasion of its territory.
