The European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) ordered late Tuesday to stop the first flight from the United Kingdom to Rwanda with several deportees.
The court based in Strasbourg has accepted the appeal filed by an asylum seeker of Iraqi nationality. In its resolution, it says that the man “should not be expelled until the expiration of a period of three weeks after the final decision in the judicial review that is taking place.”
This decision has also affected the other six who were to go on board the plane to Rwanda.
Prime Minister Boris Johnson’s deportation plan has caused controversy in the United Kingdom and rejection from Prince Charles to the leadership of the Anglican Church.
After the frustrated departure of the first plane, Boris Johnson has threatened to withdraw the United Kingdom from the European Convention on Human Rights.
