WHY IS MOTHER’S DAY CELEBRATED ON THE SECOND SUNDAY OF MAY?

Mother’s Day is celebrated on the second coming of May in honor of the American Ann Reeves Jarvis, a social activist who died on May 9, 1905. Her daughter, Anna Jarvis, was the one who started a movement to institute Mother’s Day. It was she who celebrated the first Mother’s Day in 1907, in honor of her mother, and then started a fight, sending letters to all the governors of the country. Finally, her effort paid off. She even tried to boycott it because she wanted that date to be sacred and not consumerist. “I did not create Mother’s Day to make a profit”he told a reporter, in 1923. This time, however, his fight was unsuccessful.
