The debate on the rule of law in Poland and Hungary took place during the Tuesday plenary session of the European Parliament in Strasbourg. Let us recall that in 2021, the Court of Justice of the EU imposed a fine on Poland of EUR 1 million, i.e. over PLN 4.6 million per day. So far, the penalty meter has broken EUR 160 million, i.e. as much as PLN 750 million. This was to stop “a serious and irreparable damage to the EU legal order and values”. The EU commissioner announced that “he cannot present positive changes in the rule of law in Poland and Hungary.
Penalties for Poland for violating the rule of law. “We are in war mode today”
Let us remind you that the dispute with Brussels could be resolved quickly, there is, for example, a presidential amendment to the law on the Supreme Court in the parliament. But Zbigniew Ziobro and Solidarna Polska do not want to hear about the changes. – Our position on the presidential draft of changes is still valid – said Sebastian Kaleta, deputy head of the Ministry of Justice last week, before Tuesday’s session of the parliamentary committee. It seems that a change of position will not come quickly from the Polish side. – Today we are in the war mode, and the Lord comes back to this topic, which is precisely this unequal law, because we should not talk about the rule of law in Poland today, we have a different problem. We have a war, a social war and an economic war and this is what I would like to talk about, let’s take ourselves seriously, because people in Ukraine are dying. According to the deputy minister, the rule of law is not the most important topic today. Listen to an excerpt from the program.
