The governor of Texas threatens to declare an “invasion” due to the arrival of migrants and mobilize the Army

The governor of Texas, Greg Abbott, has warned that he is considering the possibility of declaring an “invasion” by the increasing arrival of migrants at the Mexican border with the United States, which would allow it to assume war powers and expand its powers, according to ‘New York Times‘.

Abbott could do it by appealing to the article of the Constitution, which states that states cannot participate in a war, except when they “really get invaded”.

Lead lawyers for Abbott and for Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton have already met to discuss this measure, which would put the state in a head-to-head clash with the federal government by allowing state police arrest and deport migrantsas pointed out by ‘The New York Times’, which has quoted two people familiar with these conversations.

The governor has stated that he remains open to options, although he has warned of his concern about “unintended consequences” if no action is taken.

Greg Abbott has already mobilized thousands of National Guard troops to guard border posts and ordered security inspections of trucks coming from Mexico, causing him to disrupt international trade. In addition, Abbot has promoted the construction of 20 miles (32 kilometers) of new border fenceshas destined state prisons for the internment of migrants and paid for buses to take migrants from Texas to Washington DC.
