French President Emmanuel Macron was the victim of the launch of several cherry tomatoes, which did not hit him, during a visit to a market in a city in the Paris region.
In his first departure from Paris after his re-election last Sunday, Macron traveled to Cergy-Pontoise to talk to citizens in the streets and discuss political and environmental issues with them.
As he passed the stalls of a market, several cherry tomatoes (which are the size of a cherry) flew close to him, while his security service moved quickly to push him aside and open an umbrella.
Macron did not speak about the incident in later remarks to the media, in which members of his security service could be seen a little nervous, among the crowd who wanted to raise complaints or questions, or simply say hello to the president.
In his remarks, Macron again showed a very moderate tone ahead of the June National Assembly elections, saying he was going to “try to reconcile the French.”
He also promised to appoint a prime minister “involved in social, environmental and productive issues”, in another of the nods to the left that he has launched in recent weeks. (I)
