Antony Blinken assures that kyiv is under Ukrainian control

US Secretary of State, Anthony BlinkenHe stated on Tuesday that Ukraine “he won the battle of kyiv” because the city once again vibrates with people who dine in restaurants, sit on benches and walk around, as he confirmed during his recent visit to the country.

“There it was in front of us. The Ukrainians had won the Battle of kyiv.”affirmed the head of US diplomacy before the Senate Foreign Committee.

Blinken and US Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin made a brief visit to kyiv on Sunday, the first high-level US visit since the start of the war on February 24, during which they met for about three hours with the Ukrainian president, Volodymyr Zelensky.

Speaking to the committee, Blinken revealed some of his thoughts as he and Austin traveled by train from Poland to kyiv, looking out over the Ukrainian countryside that until recently looked like it might fall into Russian hands, but is now “firmly” in the hands of the Ukrainian government.

“It is impossible not to be moved when you see what the Ukrainians have achieved. It is also impossible not to think that they will continue to be successful because they know what they are fighting for, ”she asserted.

In response to senators’ questions, Blinken also provided details of his meeting with Zelensky, which focused on military aid.

Specifically, Blinken, Austin, Zelenski and the Ukrainian Defense Minister, Oleksii Reznikov, spoke about what kind of weapons the Ukrainian government needs now that the Kremlin has intensified its military campaign in Donbas, in the east of the country and bordering Russia .

In addition, during the visit, the two senior US officials promised to provide some Additional $300 million in military aid to Ukraine and announced the progressive return to Ukrainian soil of the diplomats who left the country after the beginning of the Russian invasion.

The diplomats are returning this week to the city of Lviv, in western Ukraine and close to Poland, and the security conditions for reopening the embassy in kyiv are being studied, Blinken said.

This week the government of Joe Biden is expected to ask Congress for a new military and economic assistance package for Ukraine, although the amount of the new aid is still unknown.

Since Biden entered the White House in January 2021, the United States has dedicated more than $4 billion in security assistance to Ukraine, including $3.4 billion since the start of the Russian invasion on February 24. (I)
