More than 2,000 new daily cases of COVID-19 in Chile for the third consecutive day

In the last 24 hours, 2,230 new infections were detected, bringing the total balance since the start of the pandemic to almost 1.7 million infections.

Chile registered this Saturday for the third consecutive day more than 2,000 new cases of covid-19, a slight outbreak that the health authorities attributed to the relaxation of health measures and made a call to receive booster doses to stop new infections.

“Reinforcing these measures in all our daily activities is essential since over time the perception of risk decreases and we must be clear that the pandemic has not ended,” said the Chilean Minister of Health, Enrique Paris.

In the last 24 hours, 2,230 new infections were detected, bringing the total balance since the start of the pandemic to almost 1.7 million infections, while the national rate of positivity reached 3.04%.

“I want to emphasize that vaccines have demonstrated their effectiveness in avoiding hospitalization and admission to the ICU due to covid-19. For this reason, we insist on the call to go to the vaccination centers, especially those over 55 who have not yet received their booster dose, ”added Paris.

To date, 5.4 million booster vaccines have been administered, but there are more than a million laggards who could have acquired it and have not done so, the official lamented.

The worsening is not yet reflected in the number of deaths, which were 14 in the last day, but it is reflected in the number of active cases (that can infect), which amounted to 11,388, one of the highest figures in three months.

With the aim of stopping the spread of the virus, starting next December, everyone over 55 years of age will be required to receive the third dose to be able to use their vaccination card, a government pass that allows events with larger capacity and to be treated inside of bars and restaurants.

The borders, which were closed to travelers for six months, were opened on October 1, although only for vaccinated tourists who must do a mandatory 7-day quarantine.

Chilean or foreign residents must be isolated for five days or until the result of their PCR test is reviewed. (I)
