The Chilean authorities have decided to take to court the woman who introduced the delta variant in the country, together with two family members, for attempting against public security by not respecting the quarantine required upon entering the national territory.
The patient, who traveled from the United States to attend her father’s funeral, allegedly violated Article 138 of the Constitution and lied to the authorities, who she assured that she was maintaining the ten-day quarantine required by the health authorities.
In this sense, the prosecutor Patricio Caroca has filed charges against the woman, identified as YPO, her sister and her brother-in-law, who after having contact with the infected delta variant of the coronavirus, detected for the first time in India, all attended together to a funeral with more than 20 people in Chile. The prosecutor has asked that the woman be prevented from leaving and has set a period of two months for the investigation.
The defendant would have entered Chile with a negative test of COVID-19, and once in Santiago, he would have requested a special permit to move to the town of San Javier, where he would have to undergo ten days of quarantine at his residence. However, on the way, along with his sister and brother-in-law, they stopped at a gas station and were in contact with other people.
“As indicated in emails, as well as in sanitary resolutions that regulate quarantines, they should not maintain any type of contact that involves third parties. However, they stopped on the southern route, “where they got out of the vehicle, entered a food store and” even had a conversation with people who were inside, to later return to their vehicle and continue their journey, “he said. the prosecutor, picks up ‘La Tercera’.
In this sense, “they were aware (of the conditions) and intentionally violated and even more lied to the authority,” he added.
Judge Daniel Ocampo has accepted the prosecutor’s complaint precisely for this reason, he explained, because the defendants were aware of the measures they should follow and decided not to follow them.
The latest epidemiological report from the Chilean Ministry of Health has reported 3,193 new infections detected in the last 24 hours, reaching 1,579,591 cases.
