The White House rules out a visit by Joe Biden to Ukraine on his trip to Europe

The White House ruled out this Sunday that the president of the United States, Joe Biden, visit Ukraine during his trip to Europe next week, in which he will meet with his allies to address the Russian invasion of the European country.

“The trip will focus on supporting the Ukrainian people against the invasion of the president (of Russia, Vladimir) Putin, but there are no plans for a trip to Ukraine”, White House spokeswoman Jen Psaki clarified on Twitter.

Biden will fly to Brussels on Wednesday to participate on Thursday in a NATO summit, another of the EU and one of the G7the latter convened by Germany, which holds the rotating presidency of the group of most industrialized nations in the world.

Although the White House has not yet confirmed it, the president is expected to make stops in other countries, such as Poland, a nation bordering Ukraine that the Vice President of the United States, Kamala Harris, already visited last week.

This will be the second time that Biden will attend a NATO leaders summit in Brussels in person, after the one held on June 14 and which he arrived after attending another G7 summit in Cornwall (southwest England) from June 11 to 13 of the same month.

The Russian invasion of Ukraine, launched on February 24 after weeks of border tension by the accumulation of Russian troops, has caused the flight of 3 million refugees and the death of at least 900 civilians, according to the UN. (I)
