International trade ‘free of distorted and discriminatory measures’ Bolsonaro asks the G20 summit

The president also affirmed that his country is “committed” to investing public resources in social programs for the most vulnerable population.

The president of Brazil, Jair Bolsonaro, today highlighted before the leaders of the countries that make up the G20 the “challenges” for a more “stable” and “equitable” world economic growth after the coronavirus pandemic and defended a “free” international trade of “discriminatory” measures.

“Gradually, our economies recover as the health crisis is overcome. These two recovery processes walk side by side, ”said the Brazilian president in his speech at the G20 summit in Rome.

Bolsonaro pointed out that, for this, it is necessary to promote international trade “free of distorted and discriminatory measures” and urged an “increasing” flow of trade and investment in order to promote the integration of the largest global economies and sustainable development. .

“The historic agreement concluded by the G20 and other countries on international taxation, within the OECD, is also a significant contribution to fiscal and economic sustainability,” he added.

The Brazilian president also stated that his country is “committed” to investing public resources in social programs for the most vulnerable population, as well as structural reforms “essential” for a “sustained economic recovery.”

Regarding the health emergency, Bolsonaro, one of the most denialist leaders in the face of the severity of the coronavirus and who has not yet been vaccinated, stressed that “the efforts of the G20 should focus on combating the current pandemic.”

“We understand, therefore, that the G20 is responsible for additional efforts for the production of vaccines, drugs and treatments in developing countries,” he said.

Bolsonaro also cited that more than half of the population has already completed the immunization cycle against covid-19 in Brazil, one of the countries most affected by the health crisis and that already accumulates more than 607,000 deaths and 21.7 million of infected.

Italian Prime Minister Mario Draghi today opened the G20 summit in Rome with a call to leaders for greater international collaboration to face the pandemic, global economic recovery, fight against climate change and, ultimately, build a “ new economic model, from which the world will benefit ”.
