Algeria denies that it was informed in advance of the change in position on Western Sahara

This responds to the statement from the Spanish Government on Saturday afternoon, in which it assured that it had informed Algeria of the change. Previously, the African state, “very surprised” at the news, called its ambassador in Madrid for consultations.

Algerian diplomatic sources have made it known that the Spanish Government never informed Algiers in advance about his change of position in relation to Western Sahara, as stated this past Saturday by government sources.

The Algerian diplomatic sources consulted by the national news portal Tout sur L’Algerie (TSA) categorically deny this statement. “This is obviously a lie wrapped in intentional ambiguity to try to calm the legitimate concerns raised by the Spanish political class,” they say.

The same sources again lament the turn adopted by Spain as a “dishonorable change of attitude”which they interpret as “synonymous with resounding submission to Morocco“.

“At no time and at no level”, they reiterate, “were the Algerian authorities informed of this vile bargain concluded with the Moroccan occupying power behind the back of the Saharawi people”.

Algeria, moreover, and as they did previously, declare this change of position as a “second historical betrayal of the Saharawis” that “causes serious damage to the reputation and credibility of Spain as a member of the international community.”

“The achievements expected by Madrid in terms of respect for the territorial integrity of Spain and its sovereignty over Ceuta and Melilla” warn the TSA sources, “will never be guaranteed in the face of a calculating, cynical, multifaceted and vindictive Majzén (oligarch) who does not will hesitate to resort again to the use of illegal immigration blackmail as an instrument of pressure”, they conclude, referring to the Moroccan government.

The Government of Spain assured on Saturday afternoon that it had “previously” informed Algeria about the position in relation to Western Sahara, in the face of the “surprise” expressed by the Algerian Executive, which ended up calling its ambassador in Madrid for consultations, Said Musi.

This was pointed out to Europa Press by Spanish government sources, before highlighting that for Spain, “Algeria is a strategic, priority and reliable partner” with which it intends to “maintain a privileged relationship.”
