The President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelenskyhas urged Russia to hold peace talks “to reduce the damage of their own mistakes” and “restore territorial integrity and justice” after three weeks of Russian invasion of the country.
“Local peace and security talks for Ukraine are the only chance for Russia to reduce the damage of its own mistakes. Otherwise, Russia’s losses will be such that won’t have enough generations to get up“, said the Ukrainian president, according to a message on his official Facebook profile.
On the sidelines of the negotiations, Zelenski has highlighted that more than 180,000 civilians have been evacuated and rescued through humanitarian corridors, although “the occupants continue to block the delivery of humanitarian supplies in most directions”.
“This is a tactic absolutely aware. They have a clear order to do everything possible so that the humanitarian catastrophe in Ukrainian cities becomes an argument for Ukrainians cooperate with the occupiers. This is a war crime and they will answer for it,” he said, according to the Ukrainian news agency Interfax.
Zelensky has referred to the work of the Ukrainian Army and has assured that the advance of Russian troops in the regions of kyiv, Sumy and Chernigov, as well as in the south of Ukraine. He has also pointed out that there are “difficult battles” in the Kharkov region, especially “intense” near the city of Izium.
According to the Ukrainian news agency Ukrinform, the Executive will carry out financial and housing support programs for internally displaced persons, as well as the reconstruction of destroyed homes.
The President of Russia, Vladimir Putinhas appeared this Friday in person before more than 100,000 supporters in the Luzhniki stadium in Moscow, plus tens of thousands of others in the vicinity of the facility, to defend the invasion of Ukraine as an act of salvation in the face of genocide in Donetsk and Lugansk.
In his speech, Zelensky referred to this meeting, which celebrates the Crimean referendum that ratified its incorporation into Russia in 2014, in which some 200,000 people participated, 100,000 in the streets and some 95,000 in the stadium.
“The same number of Russian troops participated in the invasion of Ukraine. Imagine that there are 14,000 corpses in that stadium in Moscow. And tens of thousands more wounded and mutilated,” the Ukrainian president described, according to the Unian news agency.
Zelensky has reiterated that “the war must end” and has indicated that “Ukraine’s proposal is on the table.” The Ukrainian president has also said that in the coming days “he will continue to appeal to the peoples of the world to ask for peace for Ukraine.”
“(Here) is my appeal to the Swiss, the people and the state. Speeches to Israel, Italy and Japan are also planned. The world listens to Ukraine’s position. The world supports our defenders, the defenders of Ukraine.”
