The Peruvian government will go before the Inter-American Court of Human Rights to reverse the ruling of the Constitutional Court. Fujimori could be released next Monday or Tuesday, as reported by his defense attorney.
The Constitutional Court of Peru has approved the release of former president Alberto Fujimori, after ruling in favor of the appeal filed against the sentence that annulled his controversial humanitarian pardon of December 2017. Alberto Fujimori could be released next Monday or Tuesday, as reported his defense attorney, Cesar Nakazaki.
Fujimori is currently serving a 25-year prison sentence for crimes against humanity for the La Cantuta and Barrios Altos massacres.
Fujimori received a humanitarian pardon for his delicate state of health in December 2017 by former President Pedro Pablo Kuczynski. The pardon was annulled in October 2018 when the Supreme Court of Peru ordered his capture based on the resolution of the Inter-American Court of Human Rights on the massacres of Barrios Altos and La Cantuta for which there is no humanitarian pardon as they are crimes of lese humanity.
