The Argentine Government will allow people immunized with the Russian Sputnik V vaccine can receive a fourth dose of any of the vaccines approved by the World Health Organization (WHO), in order to facilitate the trips of these people abroad, official sources reported this Thursday.
In radio statements, the Argentine Minister of Health, Carla Vizzotti, clarified that the Government does not recommend the application of this fourth dose, but rather it is a “personal decision” of those who have to travel abroad and cannot do so due to the lack of recognition of the Russian vaccine.
“We do not recommend getting vaccinated neither to travel nor to go to a place and receive a vaccine (…). What we are doing is endorse the application of a fourth dose in people who need to travel, whether for personal, family, humanitarian, work, study or recreational reasons”, said the minister in dialogue with Radio con Vos.
A relaxed atmosphere is lived in the streets of Guayaquil two years after the first state of emergency was declared by COVID-19. Occurs in the middle of confirmation of subvariant BA.2
In this sense, Vizzotti recognized that this decision is due to the delay in the recognition of Sputnik V by the WHO, a situation that could last even longer after the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
“This is an inconvenience that is not health, it is a decision of countries not to accept a vaccine that has proven efficacy, effectiveness and safety, but the people are not to blame. So from Argentina we are enabling the (fourth) dose so that if someone wants to travel, they can do so”, he asserted.
To receive this fourth dose, those interested will only have to present a plane ticket, meet the minimum intervals between vaccinations and be within the recommended age in those inoculated approved by the WHO, as is the case of Moderna, Pfizer or AstraZeneca.
According to the latest official data, Argentina has applied a total of 95.4 million vaccines against the coronavirus since December 2020, when the immunization campaign began in the country. (I)
