The government of US President Joe Biden has authorized the export of more liquefied natural gas to Europe and other allies, the Energy Department reported.
This natural gas will be exported from two of the largest terminals in United Statesboth owned by the energy company Cheniere Energyand which are located in Sabine Pass (Louisiana) and Corpus Christi (Texas)detailed the Department of Energy in a statement.
The authorization of Biden It relaxes the current regulations and will allow the two terminals to export 720 million cubic feet (about 20.4 million cubic meters) of liquefied gas every day.
This gas will be destined for the countries with which United States it does not have a free trade agreement, since these agreements usually establish rules for energy imports and exports.
Like the countries of Europe does not have that type of pact with the United States, they can access liquefied gas, highlighted the Department of Energy.
In addition, all the terminals have permission from the US Government to operate at maximum capacity and export all the liquefied gas that they have available.
The United States currently leads the production of liquefied natural gas, which is cold-processed so that it can be transported as a liquid in tanks across the ocean, rather than using pipelines over land.
Gas production in the United States grew after hydraulic fracturing and other forms of extraction began to be used in 2005details on its website the Energy Information Administration (EIA).
The Department of Energy it believes US production will grow 20% above current levels by the end of the year, as gas production ramps up.
Half of the liquefied gas that the European Union (EU) and United Kingdom consume already came in January 2022 from the United States, while the rest originated mainly qatar and Russiaaccording to the EIA.
The EU has been coordinating with the United States to find other forms of energy supply and reduce its dependence on Russiafollowing its invasion of Ukraine.
Russia began its invasion of Ukraine on February 24 and began bombing major cities, including the capital, causing more than three million refugees, according to the International Organization for Migration (IOM).
