The Japanese authorities lifted a tsunami alert on Thursday activated after an earthquake of magnitude 7.4 registered the day before in front of to the northeastern coast of the country, while electricity was restored.
At least one person was killed in the coastal city of Soma and dozens were injured in the quake, the Kyodo news agency reported.
A tsunami alert was activated for waves of up to one meter in the regions of Fukushima and Miyagibut this was withdrawn hours later by the Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA).
The tremor was recorded at 11:36 p.m. local time (14:36 GMT) off the coast of the Fukushima region, 60 km deep, said JMA, which at first it reported a magnitude of 7.3.
The earthquake caused a power outage that affected two million homes, 700,000 of them in Tokyothe capital, indicated the energy company TEPCO.
But around 0400 (1900 GMT on Wednesday), the company had fixed the blackouts.

Japan’s Nuclear Regulatory Authority indicated that no detected anomalies at the Fukushima plant, which eleven years ago, on March 11, 2011, it collapsed when hit by a tsunami that left 18,500 dead and missing.
The authorities indicated that they are working to assess the damage caused by the earthquake and warned that replicas could occur.
