Brazilian government corrects and says that deltacron cases are only suspected

The Brazilian Minister of Health, Marcelo Queiroga, who the day before announced the “confirmation” of what would be the first infections of the deltacron variant of coronavirus, he backed down this Wednesday and clarified that it is just suspicion.

The two deltacron cases I cited are still under investigation.” and can only be confirmed once the laboratory tests are completed, which is expected for “the following days”, Queiroga specified in a message on his social networks.

The minister insisted that, in any case, “no cause for concern”, because the deltacron variant, the result of a merger between the delta and the omicron, is not so serious, as the World Health Organization (WHO) itself has admitted.

This Tuesday, Queiroga had told journalists that both cases have been registered in the north of the country, in the Amazonian states of Pará and Amapá, which border Suriname and French Guiana.

He even indirectly linked that border condition to contagion and, although he did not specify that it is “imported cases”, he did point out that the new variant “is more present in France and other European countries”.

Brazil is one of the countries most affected by the pandemic in the world and, as of Tuesday, there were 655,585 deaths and 29.4 million cases, with 336 deaths and 52,094 infections on the last day.

In recent weeks, after a steady improvement in the situation, most cities in the country have almost completely relaxed restrictions and eliminated the mandatory use of masks outdoors, a measure that in Rio de Janeiro has even been extended to closed spaces.
