Zelenski asks the United States for more sanctions for Russian politicians who support the attack in Ukraine

The president of Ukraine has appealed to 9/11 to ask for US help: “Our country suffers the same every day.” Likewise, he has assured that the “terror” that his country is experiencing “is something that Europe has not seen in 80 years.”

The President of Ukraine, Volodimir Zelensky, has complained to the United States Congress more measures to curb Russian aggression and, he has once again called for the imposition of a no-fly zone, in addition to recalling attacks such as those of September 11, 2001. “Our country suffers the same every day,” he said.

“Remember September 11. Ukraine is suffering from this every day. A terror that Europe has not seen in 80 years,” Zelensky said in a virtual speech before the US Congress, which received him with a standing ovation. .

The Ukrainian president has included in his speech direct allusions to the history of the United States, such as the attack suffered at the Pearl Harbor base, the 9/11 attacks or the famous speech by Martin Luther King, changing the “I have a dream” by “I have a need” to request more help from international partners.

Zelensky’s intervention comes after US President Joe Biden signed a law that includes 13.6 billion dollars in military and humanitarian aid for Ukraine and the countries on the eastern flank of NATO.

Zelenski has thanked the international effort, but has asked Biden “new packages” of sanctions against Russia until “the Russian military machine stops”.

“Restrictions are necessary against everyone on whom this unjust regime is based… All those (Russian politicians) who remain in office,” he added.

He has also insisted on the request that NATO impose a no-fly zone in Ukraine, something that both Washington and the alliance have opposed.
