The United Nations Human Rights Office today asked the Russian authorities not to retaliate against the journalist Marina Ovsianikovawho this monday broke into a Russian state television news program shouting proclamations and holding a sign against the war in Ukraine.
“We are following her case and are in contact with the authorities to ask them not to retaliate against her.”, highlighted the spokeswoman for the UN office, Ravina Shamdasani, at a press conference.

Human rights activists denounced that after this protest, Ovsianikova was detained by the Police and is being investigated by the authorities.
The journalist’s action has been praised, among others, by the European Commission, whose Foreign Ministry spokesman considered it “a brave moral stance” and by the Ukrainian president, Volodimir Zelenski, who in a speech thanked his courage “and that of those Russians who continue to try to convey the truth.” (I)
