The Ukrainian Armed Forces have assured that several Russian drones would have flown over NATO airspace in Polish territory after the attack on the Yavoriv base, 20 kilometers from the border with Poland, where at least 35 people died.
“Radar means of the Air Force registered on the state border of Ukraine in the direction of Poland a Russian unmanned aerial complex of the space Forpost type that was shot down by our air defense. They are looking for the remains”, they have indicated in their official profile of Facebook.
The spokesman for the Armed Forces has described how the Russian drone would have circled over Yavoriv, studying a missile attack in the Lviv region. Later, he would have entered Poland and returned to Ukrainian airspace, being shot down by Ukrainian defenses.
In addition, they have indicated that they have information about the fall in neighboring Romania of an unmanned drone of the Orlan-10 typewhich would apparently be in the service of the Russian Army, as they have described on their official Facebook profile in a video.
When asked about this offensive in Yavoriv, a NATO spokesman limited himself to pointing out to Europa Press that the organization does not have personnel in Ukraine, without making a specific assessment of the attack on a base that is a few kilometers from allied territory and that was once a military training center for the Ukrainian Army. “The unwarranted invasion of Ukraine is causing untold suffering and destruction. It is condemned by the whole world and must stop,” the spokesman said.
Drones that can carry explosives
The authorities of Poland did not hesitate to point out that the attack is a threat to the entire alliance and indicated that with this maneuver, Moscow seeks to send a message to NATO. “They knew for sure that this military base was very close to the Polish border,” he asserted. “So of course the Russians knew what they were attacking and wanted to threaten NATO,” Polish Deputy Foreign Minister Marcin Przydacz said.
As part of this incident, Croatian authorities reported this Saturday that a damaged drone in the city of Zagreb was carrying explosives. The director of the Croatian Military Police, Brigadier General Vlado Kovacevic, explained that the remains of the device were Soviet-made. Kovacevic stressed that it was not a spy drone, but it was carrying an explosive charge. In addition, the device, 14.5 meters long, had a space enabled to carry up to 150 more kilograms. According to him, the device was aimed at a military target in Ukraine, but was diverted or the purpose was to cause civilian casualties in Zagrev. The drone’s black box has since been recovered and will be investigated.
The Government convened a meeting of the National Security Council with the main officials in the industry first thing last Friday morning and concluded, in a statement, that the device entered Croatia from Hungary, at 700 kilometers per hour and at an altitude of about 1,300 meters .
