Ukraine launches portal to receive donations in cryptocurrencies

The Ukrainian government on Monday launched a website in partnership with cryptocurrency firms FTX and Everstake, which will channel donations to Ukraine’s central bank as a way to combat the devastating Russian invasion.

On the “Aid for Ukraine” site, users can currently offer donations in 10 cryptocurrencies, including bitcoin, ether, theter, and dogecoin.

“Cryptocurrencies play a significant role in the defense of Ukraine,” Oleksandre Borniakov, Deputy Minister for Digital Transformation, said in a statement.

“Cryptocurrency assets have proven extremely valuable in facilitating the flow of funds to Ukrainian citizens and soldiers and in creating awareness and interest among the global public,” he added.

The Everstake company, one of the largest in Ukraine, will allow users to make donations in other cryptocurrencies in addition to those listed on the website.

Ukrainian cryptocurrency exchange Kuna is also part of the initiative.

On the “Aid for Ukraine” site, as of 02:30 GMT on Tuesday, nearly $49 million had been raised out of a total goal of $200 million.

This money will be used to support the Ukrainian army and civilians “in dire need of humanitarian assistance,” the alliance anticipated in the statement.
