Electronics giant ASUS suspends shipments to Russia

Taiwanese computer maker ASUS said Monday that its shipments to Russia are “paralyzed” by the war in Ukraine, days after kyiv asked to stop sending material to Moscow.

Taipei-based ASUS is one of the latest companies to express concern about the conflict.

“The situation [en Ucrania] –combined with complex challenges in supply chains, logistics and banking, as well as other factors–created an effective halt to shipments to the Russian market,” the company said in a statement posted on Twitter.

“We hope that peace will be restored soon and that timely humanitarian aid will reach all those in danger,” he added.

The company also said it will donate about $1 million in aid to the Disaster Relief Foundation, a Taiwanese NGO that raises funds for Ukraine.

It is not clear whether the suspension of shipments was done on purpose or due to the consequences of the conflict.

The announcement comes a few days after Ukrainian Prime Minister Mykhailo Fedorov called on ASUS chairman Jonney Shih to “end any relationship” with Russia.

Russia accounted for nearly five percent of ASUS laptop shipments last year, analysts said in Taiwanese media.
