Former US President Barack Obama announced on Sunday that he had tested positive for COVID-19 after experiencing mild symptoms, but said he was feeling “fine.”
“I just tested positive for covid,” the former president tweeted. “I had a scratchy throat for a few days, but otherwise I feel fine.”
His wife, Michelle Obama, received a negative test, he added. “Michelle and I are grateful to be vaccinated and to have received a booster dose,” added the former Democratic president, who called on the population to get vaccinated “even though cases are falling” in the country.
The number of infections detected by covid-19 has dropped drastically in the United States in recent weeks, with some 40,000 daily cases in recent days, compared to 700,000 at the peak of the omicron wave in mid-January.
The number of deaths is also falling, prompting US health authorities to relax their recommendations on wearing masks in late February. (I)
