The UN calls for an end to attacks against medical personnel in Ukraine

Attacks on health personnel and infrastructure must stop immediately in Ukraine. That was demanded this Sunday by various UN agencies.

“Attacking in this way the most vulnerable, babies, children, pregnant women and those who are already sick, as well as health personnel who risk their lives to help save others, is an inadmissible act of cruelty,” underlines a joint statement. of the World Health Organization (WHO), the United Nations Agency for Children (UNICEF) and the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA).

Since the beginning of the Russian invasion, on February 24, there were 31 attacks against health personnel and infrastructure, according to the WHO.

In 24 incidents, health infrastructure was destroyed or damaged, while in 5 cases ambulances were shot at or destroyed.

These attacks caused 12 dead and 34 wounded, according to the latest balance published on Sunday by the WHO in a joint statement. The organization specifies that it is investigating other incidents.
