Kiev stockpiles food and medicine before a possible Russian invasion: troops approach the capital

Kiev has started stockpiling essential products such as medicine and food to deal with what now seems inevitable: the siege and attempted invasion of the Ukrainian capital by Russian troops.

“Friends! Dear Kievites! The capital, near which the fighting continues, prepares for defense. We continue to reinforce checkpoints. Creating reserves of products, medicines and essential goods, “says the mayor of him, Vitaliy Klitschko, in his Telegram account.

In addition, “for the third day,” he said, “the city has been helping the Kiev region to evacuate residents of surrounding towns such as Gostomel, Bucha, Vorzel and Irpin”, some of them bombed by the Russians. “The city still offers passenger transport by buses. And the Kiev rescue teams pick up people at the train station. And those who want to leave the city are sent by train to western Ukraine“, specifies the mayor.

The images in the outskirts already show the proximity of the war. The bombings have consumed an air base east of the city, where an ammunition depot and an oil depot have also been attacked.

“We just hope that everything is fine again and try not to cry”says a woman hiding in a shelter. “We have already managed to differentiate between friendly fire and enemy fire,” says another.

The President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, appeals to the patriotic spirit and not to give up. “We are defending ourselves strongly. It is being a historic defense. We cannot give up now,” he assured in a video statement.

Germany and France ask Putin for a ceasefire

German Chancellor Olaf Scholz and French President Emmanuel Macron have called for an immediate ceasefire in Ukraine in a 75-minute phone call with Russian President Vladimir Putin.

“Conservation is part of the continuing international efforts to end the war in Ukraine,” a German government spokesman said in a statement, adding that the participants pledged not to discuss the issues of the call further in depth.

Russian troops are building up and Moscow says it is destroying Ukrainian military targets with Ka-52 attack helicopters. At the same time, they continue to send columns of armor from the north to Kiev.

In addition, Russia’s deputy prime minister, Sergei Riabkov, confirmed this Saturday that the United States has been warned that the Russian Army will consider any convoy transporting weapons to Ukrainian troops a “legitimate target.”

“We have warned them that their operation to supply weapons to Ukraine is not only a dangerous decision but a move that turns the corresponding convoys into legitimate targets,” Ryabkov said. In this regard, the deputy prime minister recalled the consequences that may arise in the context of the “thoughtless transfer” to Kiev of types of weapons such as portable anti-aircraft missile systems and anti-tank missile systems.
