The Deputy Prime Minister of Ukraine, Iryna Vereshchuk, has announced the opening of numerous humanitarian corridors this Saturday to proceed with the evacuation of civilians, including the one from the port city of Mariúpol, in the south of the country, whose rescue has been impossible in the last week.
As the Russian invasion marks 17 days, Vereshcuk has said that Ukraine plans to evacuate residents of several cities and towns in the Kiev and Sumy regions, as well as other areas where fighting is taking place. “I hope that the day goes well, all the planned routes are opened and that Russia fulfills its obligations to guarantee the ceasefire,” she said in a video statement collected by Reuters.
Mariupol authorities have been trying all week to evacuate the southern Ukrainian city, which has just under half a million inhabitants and is being besieged by Russia to ensure control of the Black Sea.
Meanwhile, the propaganda continues. On the one hand, the Ukrainian Armed Forces have assured early this Saturday that the Russian troops have “a big problem” in the composition of their reserves, which has led them to “lose combat capacity” since Ukraine is stopping the invasion.
Specifically, in their daily report, they have explained that sometimes “the aggressors” are taken prisoner in whole groups, and that during the last three days, small groups of deserters from the Russian side are returning to the border with Russia. “The enemy is experiencing a big problem… they are holding back a massive offensive,” the Ukrainian military said in a statement.
But, for its part, Russia has announced the destruction of 3,491 Ukrainian military infrastructures, according to a Defense Ministry spokesman quoted by the country’s news agencies. Russian troops “continue the offensive in Ukraine on a broad front,” spokesman Igor Konashenkov said.
A front that is increasingly closer to Kiev. Explosions were heard in the capital tonight, a clear sign of the approach of Russian troops. Clashes have intensified north of Kiev, including areas such as Bucha, Irpin and Hostomel, as well as the Vyshorod district further north of Kiev.
