Ukraine open to agreeing on its “neutrality” if there are “security guarantees” against Russia

The Presidency of Ukraine stated this Friday that Kiev is open to the possibility of accepting its “neutrality” if there are “security guarantees” against Russia as part of an agreement to end the war that began on February 24 by order of the Russian President Vladimir Putin.

Thus, the deputy head of the Ukrainian Presidency, Igor Zhovkvahas stated in statements given to the American television network CNN that this neutrality is possible “if NATO is not prepared to accept Ukraine now”, although he has outlined that “firm security guarantees are necessary for Ukraine so that this terrible war, this terrible aggression, will not be repeated in the future”.

Zhovkva has stressed that the Ukrainian government is willing to work with Putin and other countries in the region to create a “renewed European security system.” Likewise, she has defended that Ukraine “deserves to be part of the European family”.

“Ukraine is fighting for the security of the whole of Europe. When (French President Emmanuel) Macron talks about possible European security, how can he do it without having (Ukrainian President Volodimir) Zelensky at the table?”, he asked himself. “Without having Zelensky and Ukraine in the European Union (EU)?”, he questioned.

On the other hand, he reiterated Zelensky’s willingness to meet directly with Putin, before stressing that, despite the lack of an agreementthe meeting between the foreign ministers of Russia and Ukraine, Sergei Lavrov and Dimitro Kuleba, respectively, was something positive.

“It is a good thing that they met, but unfortunately we can say that Lavrov is not the one making the final decisions. The final decision to stop the war, achieve a ceasefire and withdraw the troops rests with one person,” he explained. , referring to the Russian president.
