Russia prohibits the export of certain foreign products and equipment

Russia banned the export of certain foreign goods and equipment on Thursday, in response to economic sanctions adopted by Western countries over the Ukraine conflict.

This measure applies to goods and equipment previously imported into Russia from abroad.

The government indicated that the ban affects certain technologies related to telecommunications, medicine, agricultural machinery and electrical equipment.

It also includes locomotives, turbines, metal and stone treatment machines, monitors and projectors.

This measure is necessary to ensure the stability of the Russian market”, the government said in a statement, adding that it will be in force until the end of the year.

However, it may be exported to member states of the Eurasian Economic Union (EEU), a customs union led by Moscow, and to the secessionist republics of South Ossetia and Abkhazia.

These measures follow the drastic sanctions adopted by the West against Russia after its offensive in Ukraine launched on February 24.
