Seven Ecuadorians who were trapped in Ukraine are already in Polandwhere they await a repatriation flight, the Ecuadorian Foreign Ministry reported Thursday.
“Good news. Thanks to the coordination with international organizations such as the Red Cross, the seven Ecuadorians who were in one of the most dangerous areas of the conflict are now in Poland”, noted on Twitter the foreign minister, Juan Carlos Holguin.
The Vice Minister of Human Mobility, Luis Vayas, meets with the seven Ecuadorians, mostly young students, who “they will soon be back on the third humanitarian flight”, explained the chancellor.
Last Tuesday, Holguín announced that thanks to international support, it had been possible to manage the evacuation of that group of Ecuadorians who were in Sumy, one of the risk areas in the Ukraine conflict.
To date, 449 nationals have arrived in Ecuador on a humanitarian flight who escaped the war in Ukraine. They were joined by seven Ecuadorians and the wives of two of them, of Ukrainian nationality, who arrived over the weekend from Mexico, where they traveled on a humanitarian plane chartered by the Government of that country.
In another humanitarian flight they also arrived in Ecuador six Colombian citizensin an act of solidarity with that neighboring country.
Ecuador was one of the Latin American countries with the largest group of nationals present in Ukraine when the Russian military invasion began in late February.
The Foreign Ministry estimates that around 800 Ecuadorians on Ukrainian soil before the outbreak of the armed conflict, most of them students. (I)
