Poland says it is ready to hand over all of its MiG-29 fighter jets to a US base for transfer to Ukraine

The Polish government announced on Tuesday its willingness to transfer all its MiG-29 combat aircraft to Germany to make them available to the United States at a base in that country on German territory.

The Foreign Minister, Zbigniew Rau, assured in a message on his social networks that Poland is “ready” to deliver their fighters after Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki on Monday denied reports that Warsaw was going to directly transfer those fighter jets to Ukraine.

According to the minister’s statement, “Polish authorities are ready to immediately and free of charge transfer all MiG-29 aircraft to the Ramstein base and make them available to the US government.”

“The Polish government also asks other NATO countries, owners of MiG-29 aircraft, to take similar measures,” the Foreign Ministry added.

In his message, the Polish minister did not specify whether the final destination of this weaponry will be the Ukrainian Air Force.

The United States Secretary of State, Antony Blinken said on Sunday that the United States was considering handing over American-made F-16 jets to Poland in exchange for the Polish government transferring its MiGs to Ukraine.a proposal that Polish President Andrzej Duda rejected on the grounds that it would directly involve his country in the war in Ukraine.

For its part, the Kiev government announced on March 1 in a Facebook message that Ukraine would receive “70 MiG-29 and Su-25 fighters from foreign partners.” (I)
