Gasoline in the United States reaches an all-time high of US $ 4,173 a gallon

The price of gasoline in the United States reached an absolute record on Tuesday with an average value of US $ 4,173 per gallon, according to the American Automobile Association (AAA, for its acronym in English).

The price of gasoline already reached a level not seen in 14 years on Sunday and has continued to rise as a result of the invasion of Ukraine initiated by Russia almost two weeks ago and which has escalated into a humanitarian crisis.

The previous record in the value of gasoline, of US$4,114 a gallon, was dated July 2008.

In some states on both coasts, the price at the pump exceeded the average on Tuesday, such as California ($5,444), Nevada ($4,674), Oregon ($4,588) and Washington ($4,546), as well as in Alaska. ($4,502) and New York ($4,366).

Since the beginning of the year, a barrel of Texas crude oil, a US reference, has become more expensive by almost 64%, and only in the last month by 37% due to the effect of Russia’s military offensive and the sanctions imposed by the West.

Russia, one of the leading exporters of crude oil and petroleum products, faces harsh punishment from the United States, Europe and its allies, as well as a boycott or suspension of activities by numerous companies that will lead its economy into recession, according to analysts.

The president of the United States, Joe Biden, added this Tuesday to that punishment the prohibition of imports of Russian oil, natural gas and coal in the country with immediate effect, which has put pressure on an already tight market.
